Spinal Health & Wellness

At Arizona Chiropractic & Holistic Health Center in Scottsdale, AZ, we treat our patients using a whole-body approach to complete wellness. Chiropractic care is a natural approach to the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. We use several advanced techniques at our health center, including the massage therapy, kinesio taping, myofascial release technique, cold laser, spinal traction, and percussion techniques. Back and neck pain are the most common reasons people reach out to us for chiropractic care. This is because the spine plays such an important role in the body. When the spine is misaligned, it can cause pain in many areas of the body. This can lead to neck pain, headaches, migraines, muscle aches, and more. At our facility, we focus on your spinal health in order to help your body reach optimal wellness.

The Spinal System

The spine contains many parts. These are all important, and when one is damaged, it can cause a lot of pain.

  • Spinal Cord: The spinal cord carries messages from the brain to the entire body. It’s made up of bones, nerves, ligaments, muscles, and other tissues that help with the functioning of the human body and the delivery of messages throughout the body. There are several parts that comprise the spinal cord, including the neck, chest and lower back.
  • Vertebrae: The vertebrae are the bones along the spinal column. They stem from their connection at the base of the skull down the body to their connection to the pelvis. There are seven vertebrae in the neck region (cervical), 12 in the chest (thoracic), and five in the lower (lumbar) region.
  • Nerves: There are many different types of nerves within the complex spinal system. The posterior and anterior root come together to form spinal nerves, which control body movement and physical sensation within the body.

Injury to the Spine

The spine is the main support system for the entire human body. Structurally, the bones along the spine give us our form and bear the impact of most body movements. With regular impact to the body, like walking, running, and general movement, the bones, muscles, and ligaments along the spine are prone to injury. Injuries and impact along the spine can also cause damage to the nerves along the spinal column. There are two types of injury of the spinal cord. A complete injury indicates a complete loss of function to nerve tissue, whereas an incomplete injury is one in which the patient has remaining nerve function.

Care and Treatment of Spinal Injuries and Back Pain

The types and causes of back pain and spinal injury can vary. Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work in the U.S. Pain can be slight, mild, severe, or debilitating. Chiropractic care for back pain is non-invasive and doesn’t involve the use of potentially addictive medications. Our chiropractor is trained to use manual and instrument-assisted techniques to manipulate the different parts of the spinal column for optimal health and functioning. We can perform spinal adjustments to help realign the spine and alleviate pain. Some of the techniques we use to treat spine issues include spinal traction, spinal decompression, the Activator Method, the drop-table method, and more.
