Your Chiropractor Can Relieve Your Migraine Pain
Migraines are the common headache’s supersized sibling, and they affect 37 million people Americans. At Arizona Chiropractic & Holistic Health Center, our team has given many Scottsdale residents lasting relief. Here is what you need to know about migraines.
What Is a Migraine?
A migraine is a very intense headache. The pain is often accompanied by nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light, and visual symptoms. It can last from several hours up to three days.
Two Kinds of Migraine
There are two main types of these headaches: migraines with aura and migraines without aura.
An aura is a sensory warning sign that happens up to an hour before the migraine. It’s often sight related. The person may see flashing lights, wavy lines, or have generally blurry vision. Occasionally, people may experience different sensations like ringing in the ears, smelling something strange, or feeling weakness in one side of the body.
However, not everyone experiences these auras. For some, they may have more vague symptoms like becoming anxious or suddenly feeling tired. Other may feel like their migraine comes out of nowhere.
What Causes Migraines?
This is not clearly understood. Migraines seem to run in families, so there may be a genetic factor involved. Many people can identify certain triggers, like changes in the weather, certain foods or drink, or chronic tension.
How Are They Diagnosed?
There is no specific test for migraines. They are generally diagnosed through ruling out other possible causes of your headaches.
What Can a Chiropractor Do For Migraine Pain?
Migraines occur when tissues in the brain become swollen and inflamed, irritating the nerves there. That pain triggers tension throughout the body, leading to more pain in a vicious cycle. Chiropractic re-alignments can relieve pain in many ways including reducing muscle tension, improving blood flow, and soothing irritated nerves. Chiropractors may also be able to help you identify migraine triggers to be avoided.
